Congenital undifferentiated sarcoma associated to BCOR-CCNB3 gene fusion

Small round cell sarcomas are aggressive bone and soft tissue tumors that predominantly affect children and young adults. A new group of sarcomas with a recurrent BCOR-CCNB3 gene fusion has been recently identified in previously unclassifiable small round cell sarcomas. BCOR-CCNB3 sarcomas share clinical and pathologic similarities with Ewing sarcoma, but show a stronger male predilection and less aggressiveness, as well as distinct gene expression profiling and pangenomic SNP array analyses. PML expression in soft tissue sarcoma: Prognostic and predictive value in alkylating agents/antracycline-based first line therapy

Soft tissue sarcomas are aggressive tumors representing <1% of all adult neoplasms. Aim of our study was to evaluate promyelocytic leukemia gene expression value as prognostic factor and as a factor predicting response to alkylating agents/antracycline-based first line therapy. One hundred eleven patients affected by locally advanced and metastatic soft tissue sarcoma were selected. Diffuse Type of Giant-Cell Tumor of Tendon Sheath: An Ultrastructural Study of Two Cases With Cytogenetic Support

Two cases of the diffuse type of giant-cell tumor of the tendon sheath (GCTTS) are described. Both tumors arose in the vicinity of large joints of the lower extremity, showing similar clinical and radiological features. Histologically, a proliferation of polygonal mononuclear cells was seen, together with osteoclastlike giant cells, foam cells, and siderophages. The tumors were poorly delineated, displaying an infiltrative pattern into the neighboring soft tissues. p16INK4A (CDKN2A) gene deletion is a frequent genetic event in synovial sarcomas.

We assessed the frequency of genomic deletion of p16 INK4A (CDKN2A) in synovial sarcomas (SSs) and its possible association with immunoexpression of p16 and cyclin D1 and the Ki-67 proliferation index using dualcolor fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) on tissue microarray sections of 41 histologically and molecularly confirmed SSs. A heterozygous p16 INK4A gene deletion was identified in 28 (74%) of 38 cases, with 25 (89%) of them showing abnormal p16 protein expression (20 negative and 5 heterogeneous). Response of tumour red blood cell flux to hyperthermia and/or hyperglycaemia.

Laser Doppler flowmetry has been applied to subepidermal rat tumours during localized ultrasound hyperthermia and/or moderate, short-term hyperglycaemia. Blood glucose levels were elevated 4-fold by continuous i.v. infusion of D-glucose (4.8 g/kg/60 min). To determine whether the effects of hyperglycaemia on tumour blood flow involved increased rates of glycolysis and lactic acid production, galactose, a sugar not metabolized by the tumour, was administered using the same dose schedule. The dynamic relationship of lymph node metastases to surrounding vascular structures in the neck is important for preoperative patient assessment. When carotid artery involvement is suspected, this relationship often determines whether or not to operate. Sarcomas are rare malignant neoplasms that develop from mesenchymal cells and include a heterogeneous and large group of histological subtypes that may occur at any anatomical site. Soft tissue sarcomas (STS), the focus of this review, account for ≈70‒80% of sarcomas and represent &lt;1% of all cancers. The heterogeneity of STS applies to both their topography and morphology, and 5-year survival can vary widely depending on disease stage and the complex interplay between anatomical site and histology for different STS subtypes. Patterns of differentiation in extraosseous Ewing's sarcoma cells. An in vitro study.

BACKGROUND In vitro, tissue culture-associated differentiation assays have facilitated the identification of multiple tumor-cell types. METHODS We have investigated the capability of differentiation of three extraosseous Ewing's sarcoma cell lines toward a neural and muscular direction by in vitro stimulation with dibutyryl cyclic adenosine-monophosphate (db cAMP) and 5-azacytidine, respectively.
